Sara Singer, Ambassadorial Scholar, kick off Rotary Foundation Month at Tri-Town Rotary

Sara Singer, Ambassadorial Scholar kicked off the month with an inspirational talk at today’s meeting, a joint meeting with the Great Barrington Rotary Club. President Marianne Young welcomed our fellow Rotarians. November is the Rotary Foundation Month. Tri-Town’s Rotary Foundation Chair Carolyn Pierce has organized wonderful speakers for the month.  Sara Singer, is the Ambassadorial Scholar for District 7890 (our district) during the Academic year 05-06. Representing the Northampton Rotary Sara chose to go to Limerick Ireland for her studies in Peace and Development at the Irish Institute where she did research for their conflict reduction handbook. She appreciated the cultural exchange and their interest in her Jewish background.  She recounted about the controversy and protest over Shannon being a refueling point for American Troops headed to Irag; while the Irish Citizens appreciated American Foreign Investment that is creating jobs for Irish workers.  “Okay to protest but not too loudly” was the sense she received during her stay.  She is dedicated to community service having done many service projects including with gypsies in the aftermath of the Pakistan earthquake. She has worked in the Americorps program in Holyoke and has spoken at many local rotary clubs about her experience as an Ambassadorial Scholar.  Her academic training has been at Wellesley and the University of Pennsylvania.  Her presentation was inspirational and well received.
